Killer Core Workout!

Crunches are not going to strengthen your core or help with your back pain. It will actually make your back pain worst. The motion of a crunch is the same movement of a disc herniating. So why do we keep doing this repetitive movement?

Core work is meant to stabilize the spine. Here is a quick 5 minute killer core workout.

High Plank with Tap Reach, 30 seconds
Side Plank Right, 30 Seconds
Side Plank Left, 30 seconds
Bird Dog, Right elbow to left knee (hold top position for 5 seconds), repeat 5X
Bird Dog, Left elbow to right knee (hold top position for 5 seconds), repeat 5X

Rest 1 minute and Repeat

Guaranteed to strengthen the core and help with your back pain.

Great Kettlebell Workshop for Healthworks!

Video of the end of the Kettlebell Training at Healthworks. I put together a circuit with all of the kettlebell exercises we went over in the 4 hour workshop.
7 stations, 2 people in each station. Exercises included:
1. Plank variations
2. Deadlift or Swings
3. Presses
4. Burpees
5. Side Planks
6. Front Squats
7. Cleans

In the workshop, I broke down the Turkish Get-Up (TGU) and the corrective exercises surrounding each step, the progressions to the swing (I use 11 steps to make sure people can activate their glutes, and learn to deadlift properly) and the progressions to the clean, the press and the front squat.

Great job everyone! See you next time for the next level of training.

Killer Content- The Secrets Of The Get-Up and Swing!

Awesome workshop yesterday, The Secrets Of The Get-Up and Swing in Natick, MA at The Fitness Prescription. Eric Beard and I broke down the 7 steps of the get-up and corrective exercises for each step of the get-up. We also broke down the proper progression on how to teach the swing, and corrective exercises to help with tight hip flexors, weak glutes and a couple other compensations.

The workshop went better than I ever expected and everyone that attended, I thank you! This workshop is a must, if you want to start teaching kettlebells. The two most important exercises in kettlebell training are the get-up and swing. Proper instruction and progression of these two exercises are vital.

I have always said, if we could get people to perform the get-up and swing correctly and with perform form, we would solve a lot of issues with backs, necks, and shoulders.

So, if you do know use the get-up and swing into your routine or even your clients, get the proper instruction and start to safely incorporate these two exercises.

I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall when we do another workshop on the get-up and swing and the corrective exercises surrounding both.
